100 companies have been responsible for 71% of global emissions since 1988.
If the high polluting companies and states don’t change their behaviour, we will reach an increase of 4°C at the end of the century. More than double what was agreed in the Paris Climate Accord. There are now lots of options for individuals to neutralise their carbon footprint. A great development but that will not be enough to stop the warming of our planet. The best way to tackle climate change would be for those companies emitting most to lead the way.
Balancing corporate footprint
That’s why we at Quadriz are assisting companies to reduce their footprint by planting trees. Trees which absorb CO2 and produces biofuel and protein. Companies can choose exactly how fast they want to off-set their emissions. Furthermore, there is the choice between the earn model, where the companies get the returns from the tree and the impact model, where all returns are invested into new trees. The impact model leads to exponential CO2 reduction because over 25 years every tree started will result in 14 more trees.
Quadriz is leading the fight against climate change and therefore we are applying to become a Certified B Corporation to join other companies that are a force for good. These Certified B Corps are businesses that strike a balance between purpose and profit. The idea being that companies have a lot of responsibility for the most pressing issues of society. This means they can also help solve these problems, like climate change. This community of B Corps strives for a positive impact for their employees, communities and the environment.
The certification is issued by B Lab, a global non-profit organization. To become one, a company must meet social sustainability and environment standards. Furthermore, a company should be transparent about its economic, environmental, social and governance performance. Currently there are over 2800 B Corps, like Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia and Tony Chocolonely. Because of our goals and way of doing business we are confident our application will be a success and we will become a Certified B Corporation.
